Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala has been shortlisted for the inaugural 2015 BBC Women footballer of the Year award, with Spain’s VerĂ³nica Boquete, German Nadine Kessler, Kim Little of Scotland and Marta of Brazil among the candidates to win the individual award.
The reigning African Woman Footballer of the Year, who plays for Liverpool Ladies of England, is the only African nominated following her superb form at the 2014 U20 Women's World Cup in Canada and the 2014 Africa Women Championship in Namibia as well as in Rivers Angels' double domestic title win.
The Super Falcons forward has been an instant hit since joining the Reds in January, scoring two goals and several assists for the reigning English Women Super League champions.
According to the organisers of the award, the winner will be decided by fans to increase their chances of winning the award, who have until Monday, May 11 to vote for their choice.
The winner of the first Women's Footballer of the Year by the media company will be announced on Tuesday, May 26 in a live radio broadcast.
